The Clinton Kool-Aid

November 18, 2008

Hillary Clinton (2), originally uploaded by Nrbelex.

On MSNBC’s ‘Hardball‘ today, Chris Matthews asked political columnist Christopher Hitchens what he thought of Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State. Hitchens called it a “ludicrous embarassment” and cited Miss Hill’s use of the race card during the Democratic primaries and her lie about dodging bullets in Bosnia as the major disqualifiers. I’m riding with Hitchens on this one because he’s right.

Besides the glaringly obvious fact that Miss Hillary has no foreign policy experience, she and hubby Bill will bring too much drama to an Obama administration. Do you really expect Bill to remain quiet if he disagrees with President Obama’s foreign policy decisions? Think again!

I’m already feeling there’s not much you can tell either of the Clintons. Obama is asking for trouble with these two provided he really wants Miss Hillary to be Secretary of State.

Miss Hillary is Bill’s wife and I roll my eyes everytime someone talks about how experienced she is for the job. Since when does traveling alongside your husband as First Lady qualify as foreign policy experience? The idea that Bill Clinton’s foreign policy is somehow is going to help his wife as Secretary of State is asinine. This idea is sexist and simple-minded. I’m also aghast at the notion that since Miss Hillary proved herself as a worthy adversary in the Democratic primaries against Obama that she deserves a plum cabinet position in his administration. Uh, I don’t think so.

On her own merits, Miss Hillary has very little foreign policy experience. If Condoleeza Rice were married we wouldn’t expect her husband to help formulate foreign policy or help with diplomacy because he accompanies her on diplomatic trips so why does this qualify for Miss Hillary for Secretary of State?

For now, I’ll pass on that pitcher of Clinton Kool-Aid and hold out for something better.

Haterade: The Bill & Hillary Version

September 24, 2008

Bill Clinton, originally uploaded by Mark from Cincinnati.

I see Bill Clinton is still salty about his wife Hillary losing the Democratic presidential nomination to Barack Obama. Although the contest between the two got pretty heated when Clinton, campaigning on behalf of his wife Hillary, started questioning Obama’s blackness during the South Carolina primary and it backfired and essentially pushed African American voters over to Obama’s camp.

The next Clinton misstep was Hillary’s attempt to play the race card and portray Obama as an elitist who is unable to appeal to blue collar and rural whites. Hillary took this even further by insinuating that she was the only Democratic candidate capable of winning in states like Kentucky and West Virginia. Even at the last moment when it was apparent that she didn’t have enough delegates to win the nomination, she refused to drop out of the race.

I don’t know what the Democratic National Committee promised the Clintons but their support of Obama has been lukewarm at best. Last week, Hillary made a half-hearted attempt to campaign for Obama but I wasn’t convinced, girlfriend is still pissy and it shows. Then Bill had the nerve to show up on “The View” and talk about how he liked both John McCain and Barack Obama. Oh really Bill!? That certainly isn’t saying very much.

One thing I can credit the Republicans for, at least they circled their wagons around John McCain’s ill-fated choice of Sarah Palin as the Vice Presidential nominee. Few if any have come out and publicly expressed concerns about McCain’s judgment or Palin’s obvious lack of experience. Unfortunately, all the Clintons can manage to do is give Barack Obama lukewarm support. I don’t know why but I imagine them secretly wishing that Obama loses the election to John McCain so they can say “I told you so.”

P.S. Where in the heck is Joe Biden?

Down and Dirty With Bill & Hill

January 23, 2008

I’m still dumbfounded by the love affair some black folks have with the Clintons(**blank stare coupled with silence**). Bill Clinton is often referred to as “The First Black President” by some but that’s an enigma for another day.

Brother Bill was caught sleeping again at the MLK Day celebration a few days ago. Martin Luther King III was speaking and Bill just couldn’t keep his eyes open. Of course, I have to talk about him for falling asleep but he was also clock-watching. He must have really been tired. I bet Calvin Butts isn’t going to bust Bill out for his bad manners. Butts, a Harlem minister, praised Miss Hillary by saying the following at his endorsement announcement:

A vote for Hillary Clinton is a vote to elect someone who has proven through time to me and to this community and this country that she has the experience to make things happen,” he said.

Okay, Calvin. I’m so glad I think for myself and don’t allow people like you, Bob Johnson and Bill Clinton to influence my decisions.

Like Hillary’s presidential campaign, Bill’s sleeping isn’t about race either. At least Bill is an equal opportunity sleeper. Both him and Miss Hillary were caught sleeping at Ronald Reagan’s funeral a few years ago. Oh, the travails of a high-powered, sleep deprived, mud-slinging couple! The Democratic presidential campaign continues and Bill just can’t seem to stop talking about Barack Obama, too bad he’s resorted to bad-mouthing him. This is not a good look. I know Bill is trying to help Miss Hillary’s campaign but this is truly going to backfire and reflect negatively on him and his wife. It diminishes them even more in my eyes; my already low opinion of the Clintons is now even lower.

Lying is something that I automatically associate with the Clintons and all elected politicians. I’m waiting for Bill to start picking on John Edwards but then Edwards isn’t viewed by the Clintons as a threat to Miss Hillary’s run for the White House in 2008.

Scott McClelland in Wonderland?

November 21, 2007

Although I have no intentions of reading his new book, former White House Press Secretary Scott McClelland finally admits that he was mislead about Iraq by President Bush, Dick Cheney, Scooter Libby and Karl Rove. Well, I’ve got news for McClelland, he wasn’t the only one. Bush and his band of merry men, deceived the American people.

I know McClelland (and the rest of the media) isn’t going to call President Bush a liar, but I will. Why are people are afraid to hold the president accountable for his lies? Obviously no one because rarely do you see anyone challenging his shifty position on Iraq or anything for that matter. When Bill Clinton was president, everybody called him a liar and an adulterer. President Bush certainly has more blood on his hands than President Clinton; his lies have cost many people their lives in Iraq, Afghanistan and even Louisiana.

In excerpts from his upcoming book, What Happened, McClelland comes off like a naive, idealistic sap but I’m not buying his carefully, crafted naivete; he’s just trying to sell some books. One of the funniest quotes in the book is about the outing of Valerie Plame as a C.I.A. agent to the press. When questioned about the source of the leak, he says:

I’ve known Karl for a long time, and I didn’t even need to go ask Karl, because I know the kind of person that he is, and he is someone that is committed to the highest standards of conduct.

Not only was Rove involved but so was the President, Vice President and Scooter Libby. If I recall, President Bush promised to hunt down the blabbermouth and have their head on a stick or something like that. If what McClelland said is true, we need to start with the deceitful, duplicitous President first. I’m tired of his lies and hypocrisy. He’s played us (the American people) like a bunch of bobble-headed saps with his $4.00 a gallon gasoline, phony patriotism and unhealthy obsession with all things O.J.

The countdown to the 2008 Presidential elections has begun, at least for me anyway.

Hillary Brings Bill’s Swagger to Iowa Because She Needs It

July 6, 2007

I’m shaking my head about Democratic presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton. They haven’t even gone to the polls yet in Iowa and she’s already brought her husband Bill along on the campaign trail. According to polls, former President Clinton is much more popular in the state than she is. Is that a surprise? What concerns me is that an independent feminist like Hillary who wants to be judged on her own merits but then relies on her husband to win votes for her in Iowa. I’m not convinced of her leadership skills if she has to bring her husband along. After all, Bill served his two terms, what is the exact purpose for dragging his ass along to Iowa except as a cheap ploy to win some votes?

She’s trailing behind John Edwards and Barack Obama in Iowa and has raised substantially less money than Barack Obama for good reason. What else can Hillary offer besides Bill? N-O-T-H-I-N-G! She’s pandering to voters about Iraq when she made it very clear that she wasn’t going to apologize for decision to invade Iraq. We already have one pompous jerk in the White House and we certainly don’t need another. Hillary Clinton isn’t all that different from President Bush. She might be a tad bit smarter; she got into Yale with her brains, he got in because of family connections. Hillary has got to be one of the most insincere politicians around. I stepped out there earlier by saying that she will not be Democrat’s presidential candidate; I stand by my words.

Pretending to be all things to all people is trite but she’s not above it. Miss Hillary will do whatever she can to win even if that includes slinging mud. She’s lost some of her front runner, “I’m ahead in the polls” swagger. She was dumb enough to believe the hype, she should know better. The news media can anoint whomever they want to be the Democratic front runner in 2008 but before they do, they might want to reexamine how Howard Dean’s campaign blew-up and later self-destructed. I don’t recall Dean being on anyone’s front runner list for the Democrats. So much can change between now and the primary so Miss Hillary had better be careful.

Its going to take more than ruthless political ambition to win the Democratic nomination for president; people have to like you. I don’t find a darn thing likable about Hillary. I wish she would just go away because it’s time for some new blood in the White House. I certainly don’t want to see Bill Clinton back in the White House as first husband or anything else. I’ve had enough of the Clinton-Bush successions, it’s time for someone new.

Gingrich: Let’s NOT Get Personal

March 22, 2007

Newt Gingrich, originally uploaded by Leadmine.

Although Newt Gingrich has done everything but announce his plans to run for president in 2008, he has been anointed by the Reverend Jerry Falwell and has built up a substantial campaign fund. He is campaigning for president. According to The Raw Story, Gingrich thinks the 2008 presidential race should focus only on the issues and not the candidates’ personal lives.

I’m sorry but I’m not going to Newt slide on this one. What a politician does in his personal life is a reflection of his character especially when he is seeking public trust and support. Remember Bill Clinton? When you are a politician and celebrity, all claims to keeping your personal life personal are relinquished. This also includes Newt Gingrich.

If he wanted to discuss a divorce settlement with the first wife while she’s laid up in the hospital recovering from cancer treatment, I need to know that. I also need to know that he informed his second wife about his extramarital affair and plans to divorce her by phone. I need to know that he is a philanderer and perjurer and betrays the people he made vowed to love, honor and cherish. If he’s lying to his wife about cheating then he’s lying to the public and his constituents too.

Note to Newt: This is not a good front. Trying to change the rules of game because you are ethically and monogamously challenged is pushing your good fortune. You seem to be more of a hypocrite now then when you took an active role in impeaching President Clinton back in 1999. If I had as much to hide as you, I wouldn’t want people focusing on my personal life either.

Hillary’s Appeal to Women

March 13, 2007

.flickr-photo { border: solid 2px #000000; }.flickr-yourcomment { }.flickr-frame { text-align: left; padding: 3px; }.flickr-caption { font-size: 0.8em; margin-top: 0px; }

Got some mail today from Hillary Clinton. It wasn’t addressed to me personally but it was sent out by her campaign for president. I must have been singled out because I’m woman and a registered Democrat. The lack of real choice in either party compels me to pick the lesser of the two evils. Conservative Republican types are dangerous, they poke, pry and peek into people’s personal lives, mainly their bedrooms to find out what’s going on so they can enact some kind of legislation to prevent gay marriage, a woman’s right to chose and Plan B birth control.

Behind African-Americans, women rank as the next group likely to support Hillary’s campaign. According to a February survey done by the Pew Research Center, fifty-eight percent of women aged 18- 49 favor Hillary over the other Democratic presidential candidates. The letter I received today was strictly an appeal to women voters touting her as “a strong, smart and experienced woman candidate”. Well, okay.

If ever Hillary needed some help from Bill, it would be now. There’s no denying that Bill Clinton is attractive to women, he’s handsome, bedazzling and clever. Anyone who has the nerve to challenge the meaning of the word “is” in impeachment hearings can’t be anything but beguiling.
She dragged Bill out to attend the 42nd anniversary of Bloody Sunday in Selma, Alabama a few weeks ago. Before a predominantly African American crowd, Bill made an appearance to help boost Hillary’s credibility with black voters. I don’t know if this ploy worked but after six years of George Bush, I’m certain they were elated to see Bill.

Now that Hillary is appealing to women, I’d be curious to see if she brings Bill along when she’s campaigning in front of large groups of women. It could be a blessing and could be a curse. A blessing because she’s managed to keep her marriage together in spite of his philandering and her career but a curse because many people will remember the Clinton years as one scandal after another. Although she has forgiven Bill for his philandering he could be a liability to her campaign.

Hillary Uses Bill to Woo Black Voters

March 5, 2007

.flickr-photo { border: solid 2px #000000; }.flickr-yourcomment { }.flickr-frame { text-align: left; padding: 3px; }.flickr-caption { font-size: 0.8em; margin-top: 0px; }

Capitalizing off hubby Bill’s BVQ (black voter quotient), Miss Hillary addressed a crowd of black voters at the First Baptist Church while her challenger, Barack Obama simultaneously addressed a larger crowd at Brown Chapel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in Selma, Alabama today.

Warmly known as “the first black president” Bill’s presence no doubt provided some with a flashback to the Clinton glory days when blacks were appointed to integral roles in the administration; memories of Ron Brown, Mike Espy and Alexis Herman dancing in their heads no doubt.

Miss Hillary conjured up the civil rights struggle in her speech and appeared to be down for the cause when she said “I come here as a sister in worship”. If she is so down with the sisters, she was noticeably silent when former Representative Cynthia McKinney had that trouble with the Capitol Hill police. Miss Hillary didn’t open her mouth.

Can’t let Miss Hillary slide on Lani Guinier either. Guinier, a friend of the Clintons for over a quarter of the century, was nominated to head the Civil Rights Division in the Department of Justice in 1993. Before she even got a hearing, she was branded a ‘quota queen’ by conservative Republicans and dropped by President Bill without so much as a phone call. Sister Hillary was noticeably silent about this too. Last I heard, Guinier hasn’t spoken to either Clinton in over ten years.

Sister, Miss Hillary? No matter how hard you try, you will never be my sister in worship or anything else. Next time leave Bill at home. I’m not impressed.

Website seeks to save America from Clinton’s radical ideas

February 19, 2007

Feeling some hate for Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton? Then StopHerNow.com is your website. According to the website’s author, her husband Bill, disgraced and degraded the Presidency and has now given Hillary permission to spread those dangerous ultra-liberal, left-wing ideas to the American people. Bill gave Hillary permission? I’ll let that one slide.

Okay, so she has sold her soul (assuming she has one) to those divisive, radical and ultra-liberal special interest groups who see everyone as “victims” but she certainly isn’t the only politician to do so. Some of her Republican and Democrat counterparts have sold their souls (assuming they have one) to divisive, conservative and ultra-religious special interest groups who see themselves as victims of the “vast left-wing” media.

Let’s not forget that by definition, politics is both an art and science concerned with guiding and influencing governmental policy. A quick look at Merriam-Webster‘s website defines a politician as a person primarily interested in political office for selfish or other narrow usually short-sighted reasons. This definition doesn’t make a distinction between a Republican or Democrat.
